Effective at the end of this month, Greg Anderson, the founder and show producer of the very popular SportsTalk show on WOMT will be retiring.
Anderson explained that after 10-years of being directly involved in the show he has no real regrets and is proud of the fact they’ve predominantly had live guests each week.
Next Monday, August 16th, Greg along with Brian Norton and John Johnson will be on the air with their 500th episode of SportsTalk, which is when he will “hand the car keys over” to JJ and Brian.
“Not that I don’t love the show and what we have accomplished,” Anderson told Seehafer News, “but like everything else in life, it’s time to hand the torch over.”
Anderson also paid a huge compliment to Brian Norton saying, he’s never known a more prepared guy than Brian, adding he just doesn’t show up a few minutes before the show and wing it.
About the longevity and success of the weekly talk show, Greg said “most people were skeptical about its long term success at the beginning of this,” and would ask him why he thought big-name athletes would come to Manitowoc.
But the work paid off as he has seen “many of our show fans over the years bring their kids or grandkids because so and so was their favorite player…and got pictures with them…No other show in Wisconsin does it the way we do it.”
As for memories of the show and what has surprised him, Anderson said he was amazed at how “real” some of these athletes and coaches are.
Obviously, there are many of them that buy into their own hype, but “most of these guys and gals we’ve had on, no matter how long their list of accomplishments has been…are regular guys and gals when they are off the field or court.”
SportsTalk has garnered 2 statewide awards for excellence for Medium Market radio stations from the Wisconsin Broadcasters Association.
It has been broadcast live in recent years from the Big Apple in Rockwood but come September 13th the show will move to BRIX in downtown Manitowoc.
