The executive director of Woodland Dunes Nature Center in Two Rivers spoke this week about bird migration.
Jim Knickelbine tells us about the southern migration of our feathered friends.
“I heard 2 orioles in my yard this morning that weren’t there yesterday. This is actually a good time to fill birdfeeders…put out oranges, jelly. If you have a hummingbird feeder keeping clean nectar in there, changing it every few days.”
Knickelbine explains that hummingbirds are migrating right now, “And they really depend on having a lot of different food sources, both natural and the supplement that we can provide for them as well.”
The nature center spokesman says there’s “some concern” about disease out east with dead birds.
But, he has not seen that here. Knickelbine said “If we would see that, we would back off from bird feeding a little bit.
