The Two Rivers City Council during their Monday night work session approved on a 7 to 2 vote an amendment to the Parks and Cemetery Capital Budget to continue the plan and design work for the Central Park West 365 Project in the heart of Downtown.
City Manager Greg Buckley says the amount approved was $45,000.
“Not to have complete bid ready design but to take the design to the thirty percent stage where we could further flush out some of the concepts that are in that plan for the park and develop some accurate cost estimates that will allow us to continue moving forward with grants and fundraising activity as we get into September.”
Buckley says the estimated overall cost is between $1.6 and $1.8 million.
“That’s inclusive of a splash pad, a skating rink with artificial ice which would be conducive to the variables of our winter weather here. It would also entail replacing the bandstand with a new bandstand structure at the north end of the park.”
The plan–as currently laid out–includes the construction of a concession stand and restroom building with some architectural character to it in the middle of the park. It also includes the closure of Park Street in front of the Community House to extend the park space right up to the front of the building which Buckley says could be up for further debate.
The Parks and Cemetery Committee will resume discussion on the project after Labor Day.
