The third of three five-year tourism partnership agreements between Manitowoc-Two Rivers and the Manitowoc Area Visitors and Convention Bureau is set to expire at the end of this year.
Two Rivers City Manager Greg Buckley says discussions began back in April between the two cities about a possible renewal of the current deal.
“Both cities notified the MAVCB prior to the end of May that we did not intend to renew the current agreement otherwise the current agreement has an automatic renewal clause in it,” he explained. “So we made it clear that we wanted to renegotiate terms.”
Buckley says they recently received a draft of a new agreement from Manitowoc City Attorney Kathleen McDaniel.
“We have reviewed that including a final review of the draft at our Room Tax Commission Meeting last Thursday and have forwarded those proposed changes back to Mayor [Justin] Nickels and Attorney McDaniel and the Council Representative on Manitowoc’s Room Tax Commission,” Buckley said. “We are awaiting feedback on that.”
Both municipalities have laid out and addressed changes they want but those have yet to be disclosed.
The Two Rivers City Manager was hopeful a new agreement could have been reached by today but he tells Seehafer News, “We really need to get this done sometime in September and the sooner the better or otherwise speaking for Two Rivers we are seriously looking at a plan B.”
