Area gardeners have enjoyed a bountiful harvest of tomatoes, peppers, and cucumbers this summer.
Now, Tom Hartman of Hartman’s Town and Country Greenhouse, says Fall is on the way.
“You might have some places in your yard and garden where you need some color again,” Hartman told Seehafer News. “We have a good assortment of mums, which look great right now. And we’ve also got hardy asters, kale, and pansies to freshen up your yard. We have pumpkins, straw bales, and cornstalks now for decorating your yard.”
During a recent appearance on WOMT’s Be My Guest program, Hartman was asked about a disease affecting flowering crab trees which causes leaves to fall prematurely.
“It’s [called] apple scab, a very common disease that happens in early spring already when we get some wet weather,” Hartman said. “If the leaves get too many scabs on them they’ll drop prematurely. It’s very common and I’ve got one in my yard that’s doing the same thing.”
The local plant expert said if you choose to replace that tree, get scab-resistant varieties.
