Luke A. Stangel, age 81, a resident of Manitowoc, passed away peacefully on Tuesday morning, September 28, 2021, with his loving family by his side.
Luke was born October 12, 1939 in the town of Tisch Mills, son of the late Adolph and Mary (Slaby) Stangel. He attended Tisch Mills Public Schools and ran the family farm. On January 2, 1960 he married Joan Konop in Norman, Wisconsin and then they moved to Manitowoc. Luke was employed at Manitowoc Engineering for over 40 years until his retirement in 2000. He loved working in the yard, traveling, and enjoyed spending time with his family. His grandchildren were the light of his life. Luke’s big spirit and kindness touched everyone he ever met. He will be dearly missed.
Survivors include his beloved wife of nearly 62 years, Joan; daughter, Debra (Don) Dawson, Milwaukee; son, Jeff Stangel and Lourdes Balagtas, Chicago; grandchildren, Kalie Dawson, Kendra Dawson, Sloane Stangel, and Colin Stangel; sister, Elizabeth Malach; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Mary Ann Fabian, Joseph and Shirley Konop, Loretta and Lee Dorner; also nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Luke was preceded in death by his parents, Adolph and Mary Stangel; two brothers, Arthur and Melvin; father-in-law and mother-in law, Joseph and Cecelia Konop; and brothers-in-law, Harold Malach and Gerald Fabian.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, October 4, 2021 at the Harrigan Parkside Funeral Home with Deacon Alan Boeldt officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 12:00 noon until the time of service. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery.
