LaVern (Sonny) Shedal, age 89, lifelong Mishicot resident, died peacefully with family at his side on Friday, October 1, 2021, at the Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers.
Sonny was born in Mishicot on September 28, 1932 to Peter and Anna (Sladky) Shedal. He attended the LaSalle Grade School in Mishicot and graduated from Mishicot High School with the class of 1952. He then served his country in Korea as a member of the United States Army. Returning home from military service, he was united in marriage to Elmyra Stueck on June 14, 1958. She preceded him in death on July 28, 1988. LaVern owned, operated and loved his farm, “LaSalle Dairy”, actively farming until the age of 80. In addition to his love of farming, Sonny was also a well known electrician, wiring many electrical side jobs over the years. He also enjoyed working on antique tractors, “fixing things”, and riding his moped.
Survivors include his son & daughter-in-law, Kevin and Tammy Shedal of Mishicot; daughter & son-in-law, Holly and Patrick Herzog of Maribel; five grandchildren: Ben Herzog, Sara (Jared) Muench, Emily Shedal, Kelly Herzog, and Rachel Shedal; three sisters, Leona Siebert, Vivian Schmidt, and Rosa Kovarik; and special friend, Judy Petska. He is further survived by brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: William and Karen Schroeder, Ken and Carma Kornely, Patsy Shedal, and Warren Wentorf; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Anna Shedal; his wife, Elmyra; father & mother-in-law: Oscar and Irene Stueck; siblings: Robert Nehring, Violet Craft, Bernard Shedal, Beatrice Novak, Bernice Wentorf, and Barbara Shedal; and in-laws: Carol Nehring, David Craft, Ronald Novak, Gordon Siebert, and Louie Kovarik.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 7, 2021 at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mishicot. Rev. Joel Stuebs will officiate at the service, with burial to follow in the Mishicot Public Cemetery. Military graveside honors will be accorded by members of Kempen-Staudinger-Terrens VFW Post #7753 of Mishicot.
The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church Thursday morning from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m. There will be no Wednesday evening visitation.
