“Big Blue”–a 170-ton Navy Crane manufactured by Broadwind Heavy Fabricators of Manitowoc has advanced to the Final Four of Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce “Coolest Things Made in Wisconsin” contest.
The five-seed “Big Blue” defeated the four-seed WiNDR manufactured by Absolute Power in Ashland.
The state-of-the-art crane built in partnership with Konecranes, the State of Wisconsin, and the City of Manitowoc can lift up to 140 tons and has a boom height of 195 feet. This new portal crane now docked in Portsmouth Maine allows their Naval shipyard to support life-extension work which increases the number of submarines available for the Navy to help protect The United States.
WiNDR is a slit rewinder that creates medical, disinfecting, cleaning, and industrial wipes and was inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Big Blue moves on to the semi-finals and will face the top-seed Electric Rope Shovel made by Caterpillar Manufacturing of Milwaukee which will aid in their mining industry endeavors.
The other semi-final pits the two-seed Kwik-Trip Glazer Donut against the three-seed Verado V 12 600 horsepower outboard engine manufactured by Mercury Marine in Fond Du Lac which is the highest-powered Outboard engine on the market.
Voting Begins tomorrow at 9 a.m. and runs until noon next Thursday, October 14th and the winner will be announced at the WMC’s Business Day Event next Thursday at 1 p.m. You may vote once per day per device.
