Green Bay-based Wisconsin Public Service has released information about a nationwide natural gas price spike that’s expected to mean higher heating bills this winter.
According to a news release from WPS, the price of natural gas has more than doubled this year and currently sits at the highest level in a decade.
It’s mainly due to tight supplies and a worldwide increase in demand for natural gas.
An analysis done by WPS predicts the typical residential customer will be paying $40 more a month this winter, compared to last year, assuming typical winter weather.
In order to help customers in the greatest need, Wisconsin Public Service donated $4-million to the Keep Wisconsin Warm Fund this year to provide direct financial assistance to help qualifying customers pay their utility bills.
