In a unanimous 23-0 vote, the Manitowoc County Board of Supervisors passed the 2022 budget last night.
The nearly $83.5 million spending package was presented last month by County Executive Bob Ziegelbauer.
“My proposal calls for no increase in the tax levy and a slight reduction in the County tax for the typical County taxpayer,” Ziegelbauer explained to Seehafer News. “It also calls for no borrowing, an aggressive highway maintenance plan, and a robust capital improvement program.”
Ziegelbauer says the budget also includes about $23 million in American Rescue Protection Plan money from the last Federal Stimulus Plan which he says about $8 million will be shared 50-50 with municipalities based on per capita size.
It will be used to repair and provide the following services lead pipe lateral removals, water and sewer projects, broadband, and replacement of county-approved emergency radios.
Ziegelbauer said he believes, “with this one-time federal money we should amount of good for the greatest amount of people In our community. Voluntarily sharing the nearly $8 million with the municipalities Is a good way to do that.”
The budget also calls for adding three positions in the Sheriff’s Department and 17 In Human Services mostly in Mental Health and Children and Families which will be funded by state and federal finances.
The tax levy is slightly above $31 million and the average bill per $100,000 of equalized value varies slightly in each taxing district.
Tax Bills will be mailed out next month.
