Today marks the 95th birthday of WOMT Radio.
WOMT has come a long way since its founder, Francis Kadow, first went on the air at 5:30 pm on November 8th, 1926 at the former Mikadow Theater across from Washington Park in Manitowoc.
For those who don’t know, the call letters stand for World’s Only Mikadow Theater.
The station’s second owner was Wisconsin Fuel and Light Company until 1970 when the late Don Seehafer purchased WOMT.
The Wisconsin Broadcasters Hall of Famer remained the owner until transferring ownership of Seehafer Broadcasting to his four children in 2014.
Mark Seehafer is President and oversees six radio stations in Manitowoc, along with two others in Marshfield, Don’s hometown.
