A Manitowoc mother and daughter, formally charged with child neglect-consequence is great bodily harm, are due in Manitowoc County Circuit Court this afternoon for initial appearances.
23-year-old Samantha Jordan and her 53-year-old mother Kristine Jordan are charged after it was discovered that Samantha and her infant child tested positive for cocaine after her child was born.
The child was taken to Aurora Medical Center in Two Rivers after the child was having trouble consuming very little, then eventually no baby formula.
Doctors told police the infant had suffered multiple strokes and her kidneys weren’t functioning properly.
A search of the child’s residence uncovered a smoking device used for the consumption of crack cocaine.
Samantha Jordan also admitted to authorities that she had done a “line or two” of cocaine about a week before her child was born.
At last word, the child remains at Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee being treated for unspecified injuries and was given a 1 percent chance of survival.
Both defendants remain in the Manitowoc County Jail on $25,000 cash bail each and face up to 12.5 years in prison if found guilty.
