Woodland Dunes Nature Center will be ‘chilling’ one week from this Saturday when they would ordinarily be holding their Tropical Blast Fundraiser.
Event organizer Nancy Nabak tells Seehafer News this year’s Tropical Chill on February 19th is an answer to the rising number of COVID cases and trying to keep people safe.
Nobak explained, “We talked a lot of about how we wanted to do [the event] this year and decided that [even though] we care about nature, we’re a nature center, but that includes human nature so we decided not to get people organized in a big crowd in one room this year.”
So, Nabak explains they’re asking supporters of the nature center to “stay home, to actually chill for the night. So, our tropical blast theme this year turned into a tropical chill. So, we’re still holding an event but we’re sort of bringing the event to the people instead of bringing people to the event.”
Up until this Friday (February 11th), if people make a $75.00 donation, they’ll receive a $25.00 gift card for the Courthouse Pub in return.
On top of that, Nobak explained, “We also have an online silent auction that starts this Friday, February 11th at noon and it will go for one week ending Saturday, February 19th at noon. There are a lot of great items in there, around 50 of them.”
Nabak says the goal of the event is to raise over $30,000 to support nature-based education and important conservation efforts on the 1,500 acre preserve.
