Calling All Teens! Manitowoc Public Library (MPL) and Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum are teaming up for a fabulous hands-on Teen Lock-In party!
What is a Lock-In party, you say? MPL Teen Lock-Ins are themed parties that take place one Friday a month at 6:30 PM after the Library is closed (AKA locked) to the public. Teens (ages 11-17) can hang out with friends, take part in cool activities, play computer, video, or board games, and more! And did we mention that snacks are provided? It wouldn’t be a party without snacks, right?
Do the Lock-In parties sound cool to you? Well, we’ve been working hard at MPL with the help of the Teen Team to create new teen programs. Side Note: being an MPL Teen Team member is an awesome way to earn volunteer hours and have fun! The Teen Team meets every third Thursday of the month to help us at MPL to brainstorm ideas for teen services and Lock-In parties. We have been looking out into the community to find creative and entertaining projects and the Hamilton Wood Type Museum Workshops felt like a great opportunity.
The Lock-In party at Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum will be all about letterpress printing and stamping. The museum has the world’s largest collection of Wood Type with over 1.5 million pieces! You can tour over 40,000 square feet of printing history at the museum. The museum shows the process, the machines, the presses and the product.
The Teen Lock-In party at Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum will take place this Friday, March 11, from 6:30 to 8:30 PM. This particular Lock-In will start off with snacks and then we’ll dive into letterpress printing and stamping. Teens will learn all about this historic craft by creating a unique and colorful poster. Teens should be sure to wear clothes that can get inky, because we will most definitely be hands-on for this Lock-In!
Registration and Permission Slips signed by a guardian are required for entry into MPL’s Teen Lock-In parties. Registration for the Lock- In at Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum is open NOW! Teens can register in-person at the MPL Youth Services Desk or by calling 920-686-3030.
