The authentic World War II submarine USS Cobia is now a Sub BnB!
The USS Cobia and its home, the Wisconsin Maritime Museum in Manitowoc, is featured in the “Unusual Lodgings” section of the March/April edition of The Saturday Evening Post.
Museum Executive Director Cathy Green tells Seehafer News that overnight stays draw people from all over the country and are very successful.
“We are continuing to keep this program going even though our scout groups … we’re grateful they’re coming back, and we’re booked out all the way to I believe June, at this point, between our scout groups and ‘Sub BnB.’”
She is well aware of the demand for the unique submarine experience, adding, “We’re going to keep it [going] especially in the summer when we have tourists and folks wanting to get out and travel around the state.”
Green explains it’s a fantastic program for them and is also a great form of revenue.
In the course of about a month, we came up with the plan and put the logistics in place to be able to list Cobia on Airbnb as a ‘Sub’ BnB.
The article in the ‘Post describes the Cobia as one of the largest class of subs of its era, it has been retrofitted to include 65-sleeping spaces. As part of the experience, they offer linens, towels, showers in their building and breakfast in the morning. For more information, go to wisconsinmaritime.org/programs for a link to Sub BnB.
