Schools in Appleton will be closed today.
The Appleton School District made that announcement yesterday citing high than average staff absences and the sudden rise in temperatures.
After several weeks of temperatures in the 40s and 50s, the high today in Appleton is 86 degrees according to the National Weather Service.
Green Bay also set a new record high yesterday, breaking 91 degrees.
The previous record was set at 87 degrees in 1991.
The cancelation of school in Appleton also affects the after-school activities and evening events.
