The City of Manitowoc continues to work with the Lincoln Park Zoological Society to maintain the zoo at its’ highest level.
With that in mind, Parks and Recreation Division Manager Curtis Hall said the two entities partnered to complete a Master Plan last year.
One of the priorities was to renovate the old wolf exhibit after the previous animals passed away from old age two years ago.
Hall explains the mountain lions will be moved to that area, near the entrance to the Lincoln Park Zoo.
“We have two mountain lions on site and they’re very eccentric, friendly and they like to put on a show,” he told us. “So, we’re going to renovate the old wolf exhibit, move the mountain lions in there, which will allow us to then renovate their former home and backfill that with some new and exciting animals in those exhibits as well.”
They’ve started the design process of the new mountain lion exhibit and he’s hopeful of getting that project up and running with construction later this year.
Meanwhile, a local farmer has reached out to them to donate some alpacas.
Hall says, “We are in the process of converting the big red barn to an alpaca exhibit, or enclosure. So, unfortunately, we’re no longer going to have cows and pigs, but we still have goats and sheep.”
Meanwhile, Hall said the zoo recently had a significant donation from Cretton Landscape and Badgerland Aggregate to complete the landscaping for the new deer shelter installation.
Cretton donated all the labor to install the new rock terrain while Badgerland covered the cost of the material.
