The Manitowoc American Legion Baseball team won its’ 2nd straight game late yesterday (July 27th) at the State Triple-A Tournament in Sheboygan.
Post 88 spotted De Pere an early 3-nothing lead before rallying to win 5-3 at Wildwood Park.
Winning pitcher Brandon Stephany went the distance on a 6-hitter and really toughened up after allowing 5 hits and 3 runs in the first 2 innings.
Offensively, Dan Schmitz ripped a 2 run homer in the third, but the biggest blow was Ashton Portmann’s bases-clearing double in the 4th inning to put Manager Kevin Stangel’s club ahead to stay.
Luke Brosig takes the loss for De Pere, which will now play an elimination round game against Marshfield at 1:00 this afternoon.
That’ll be followed at 4:00 p.m. by a 2nd elimination game pitting Middleton against Eau Claire.
Manitowoc, at 24 and 4, will battle host Sheboygan tonight at 7:00 p.m. in the final game of the day.
Sheboygan also won its’ 2nd straight game, nipping Eau Claire 5-to-4.
In elimination games at the State Legion Tournament Wednesday, Middleton edged Fond du lac 10-9 and Marshfield narrowly got past Genoa City 6-5.
