The Manitowoc County Coroner’s Office has released the names of the three victims from yesterday’s fatal car crash in the town of Newton. They are 40- year-old Derrick J. Konz of Whitelaw—62-year-old Steven M. Groelle (grelle) of Manitowoc and 33-year-old Jennifer Seidl (sy-del) also of Manitowoc. County Sheriff’s deputies and EMS personnel responded just after 3:30 to the I-43 collision south of County Trunk C. Investigators say Konz was driving a pickup truck south when his vehicle proceeded through the median and collided with a northbound van operated by Groelle. All three victims were trapped and had to be extricated by jaws-of-life. Konz and Seidl—a passenger in the van—died at the scene while Groelle was flown to Theda Clark Medical Center in Neenah where he died from his injuries. Coroner Curtis Green said the cause of death for all three were attributed to skull fractures and massive blunt force trauma to the chest and lower extremities. Green adds its unknown if any of them were wearing seatbelts. Full toxicology results of both drivers are pending and the accident remains under investigation by the Sheriff’s and Coroner’s offices as well as the State Patrol.
