The Manitowoc Police Department is joining law enforcement agencies across Wisconsin and nationwide during the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Campaign that ‘ll run through Labor Day.
Lt. Adam Sohlden someone is killed in an impaired driving crash every two hours in Wisconsin.
166 people died last year with an additional 74 fatalities related to drug-related crashes.
Sohlden says officers will work together during this time to take impaired drivers off the roads and keep everyone safe as the summer travel season winds down.
He adds that deaths and injuries to due impaired driving are preventable and want to ensure that all travelers get to their destinations safely.
The local law enforcement official urges that if you plan to celebrate, identify a designated driver, or find a safe alternative way home.
Never allow someone who’s impaired to get behind the wheel and protect everyone when you travel by “buckling up”, put your phone down and eliminate all distractions.
If you suspect a driver is impaired, call 911 and please provide as much detail as possible on the driver, vehicle and location.
