It’s September—can you believe it? Back to school, Summer is coming to an end, and everyone suddenly is all about Pumpkin Spice. For me, Fall is the best time of year because it means the Holidays are just around the corner. Manitowoc Public Library staff is all about creating holiday fun for the community, so we are about to dive into prep for our Halloween celebrations—MPL’s Trunk or Treat and Library Creepy Crawl. But, making a spooky good time takes a lot of work and we need some help from the Teens in our community to get this job done!
MPL is looking for Teens ages 11 to 17 to join our 2nd Annual “Boo Crew” to assist with the Library Creep Crawl. In case you didn’t already know, the Library Creepy Crawl is a more family-friendly version of last year’s “Haunted Library.”
Families attending Trunk or Treat in the Briess Parking Lot across the street from the Library can show off their costumes, get treats, check out some cool organizations in the community, and then continue the fun inside MPL with the Creepy Crawl.
Both of these Library events—Trunk or Treat and Library Creepy Crawl—will run from 5:30 to 7 PM on Tuesday, October 25. No registration is required! The Library Creepy Crawl promises a creepy good time for all ages. Families can sneak through the Library to find sweets and surprises around every corner!
You might be asking yourself: “How does the Boo Crew fit into all of these Halloween festivities?”
Boo Crew Participants will help with the planning, design, and set-up of the Creepy Crawl event. And if you are a bit more theatrically-inclined, you may even be asked to perform a bit. Now, here is the really great part: participating teens are also eligible for Community Service Hours for all the prep and assistance in the Library Creepy Crawl event. Yes, you can rack up service hours and have some Halloween fun!
Right about now, you’re probably saying to yourself, “Hey! That Manitowoc Public Library Boo Crew sounds pretty epic! I want to do that!” Or maybe, if you’re not a Teen yourself, you may know of one or have one at home that is an expert scarer. “So, how do I become a part of the MPL Boo Crew,” you ask. It is so easy!
MPL is hosting a Boo Crew orientation, Tuesday, October 4, at 5 PM for interested teens. Registration is required for the Boo Crew orientation and will be open from September 20 at 5 PM through October 3 at 5 PM. Head to www.manitowoclibrary.org/event/boo-crew between September 20 and October 3 to secure your spot! Both parents and teens are welcome to attend this informational meeting.
Still have questions or maybe you’re not sure if you can attend the orientation? Just contact me, MPL Teen Associate, Lisa Devins-Horohoe. You can drop by the Youth Department, call 920-686-3030, or just send an email with your questions to mplteen@manitowoc.org. It’s just that simple!
There are so many ways to get in the Halloween Spirit at Manitowoc Public Library! Grab your friends, grab your costume, and get down to the Library!
We’re just DYING to see you!
