The Milwaukee Plan Commission has given preliminary approval to a $50 million project for new music venues in the Deer District.
There are still more steps to be completed in the process and the question moves on to the Milwaukee Common Council.
There is strong opposition.
More than 6,000 people have signed petitions opposing the zoning change proposed for the former site of the Bradley Center next to the Fiserv Forum.
Other downtown music venues say the plan would take away too much of their business.
