A local plumber appeared as a special guest with Brandon Bartow on his “Welcome Home” program aired Tuesday mornings at 8:30 a.m. on 107.9 FM WOMT and 97.1 FM WCUB.
Tim Petersen with Maritime Plumbing spoke about dealing with outdoor water spigots as colder weather approaches.
“Right now is the time of the year when you have got to make sure, when we get these cold nights, that we are disconnecting that garden hose, and not leaving them on overnight,” he explained.
Petersen also said it is important to “turn the valve off on those faucets inside over the winter inside the house, and open them up outside so they drain out.”
He advises closing the valve on the inside and opening the valve on the outside.
Now, if you don’t have one inside, Petersen says, “you should. I would definitely recommend having one installed so you can isolate that exterior faucet so you don’t have those issues in the winter.”
So, if you don’t shut the valve off inside your house for an outdoor water faucet, you could have some major issues.
