The University of Wisconsin football program will pay an $11 million contract buyout to former head coach Paul Chryst.
His deal could have earned him more than $20 million after his firing, but the negotiated agreement removes a possible barrier to the coach accepting a contract at another Division I program.
Chryst just signed a new five-year deal a year ago this month that included a total compensation package of $5.2 million a year.
Athletic Director Chris McIntosh stresses the buyout money will come from private funds in the UW Foundation and not from taxpayer dollars.
