Officers from The Manitowoc Police Department. Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Department and County Metro Drug Unit responded to Roncalli High School at 9:35 this morning after The Joint Dispatch Center received a 911 phone call of an active shooter.
Although the threat was later determined to be false, Lt. Mark Schroeder of The Manitowoc Police Department says regardless. “It’s all hands-on deck.”
“Initially our job is to stop the threat. In this case, The Manitowoc Police Department. Sheriff’s Department and Metro Drug Unit all responded, so pretty much all law enforcement responded to Roncalli.”
Lt. Schroeder says this is a situation The Department prepares for on a regular basis. He explains,
“We are always training active shooter situations because that is the worst case scenario and we’re constantly being updated on pretty much every training cycle we have.”
Administration at Roncalli immediately went into lockdown procedures and secured the building.
A systematic search of the building determined there was no threat to students or staff.
Several other Manitowoc area schools were put on Secure as a precaution during the response.
