Bail is set at $50,000 recognizance for a 27-year-old Manitowoc man charged with Arson of a Manitowoc bar.
Alex M. Braun is also charged with Disorderly Conduct.
A fire was reported at Van’s Bar in the 400 block of North 9th Street around 12:30 Monday morning with crews finding the structure fully engulfed in flames upon arrival.
A police investigation aided by video evidence led them to Braun, who was seen entering and leaving the bar before flames were visible.
He was detained and told authorities that he had carelessly discarded smoking materials that may have caused the fire.
Conditions of bail are that Braun have “no contact” with the bar or any of its employees. He’s not to leave the state of Wisconsin without prior permission from the court and Braun is to maintain “absolute sobriety”.
He’s due back in court for an initial appearance January 9th.
