The Two Rivers Public School District is working directly with the City of Two Rivers on the L.B. Clarke Middle School expansion project.
The project, which was approved by the voters in a November referendum, would require using land that is owned by the city to the west and north of the school.
The City Council gathered Monday to discuss the project, and City Manager Greg Buckley said it sounds as though they are open to conveying the roughly 8 acres of land to the District, “With the understanding that the city would retain the ability to program the area to the north of the school where we have a pony league softball diamond and an area where we do soccer programming.”
As a part of the proposed agreement, the School District would be responsible for the maintenance of the turf, while the City would take care of the markings and other activities related to their programming.
Buckley also said the city would support “If the district were to develop a varsity ball diamond there and move the varsity baseball program from Walsh Field.”
That being said, all of this was not yet approved, only discussed Monday.
It is likely that the proposal would go before the council at a later date.
