President Joe Biden touted the uptick in the economy, a reduction in inflation, and a 50-year low in unemployment during his State of the Union Address last night.
Sixth District Congressman Glen Grothman, who represents Manitowoc County in Washington D.C., says some of what the President said amounts to “fool’s gold.”
“You have to remember that the number of people in the workforce, what we call the labor participation rate is lower than it should be,” he noted. “I think a lot of that has to deal with the welfare policies of The Biden administration. It’s something he didn’t address and I wish he would of.”
Grothman also was disappointed that the President didn’t talk more about the U.S.-Mexican border crisis.
“We had a hearing on the border [Monday] and one of the more intemperate tweets I ever seen was the entire Democratic side of the committee said that the only reason we talked about the committee was that we were white supremacists,” he revealed. “We have to get rid of that rhetoric coming from The Biden Administration.”
The Republican from Glenbeulah adds that the fentanyl crisis is reaching epic proportions in large part to illegal immigration occurring along the border and is concerned about the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
Fellow Republican Senator Ron Johnson also issued a response, saying “The disastrous results of his governance describe the actual state of our union – a more divided nation, 40-year-high inflation, an open border with a flood of illegal immigration and deadly drugs, high energy prices, rising crime, record debt and growing threats from global adversaries. Our nation is in peril.”
Democrat Tammy Baldwin noted that she has worked with President Biden to “lower costs for working families, boost our Made in Wisconsin economy, and create good paying jobs in all corners of our state. I am thrilled that he recognized that work tonight.”
