The Manitowoc Chiefs have a youth football tradition that dates all the way back to 1974.
Last year, the Chiefs had approximately 150 kids in grades 5-through-8 play football.
Registration for their Tackle and Flag Football programs is currently underway.
Program spokesman Mike Panosh said this past offseason the board approved expenditures of up to $20,000 for new helmets, shoulder pads, etc with the goal that every Chiefs player has the best equipment possible.
He continued, “We are truly Manitowoc’s team in that all three of our high schools have players who began their careers at the Chiefs.”
Panosh says official practices for all their teams will start the first week in August and the season coming to a close the second week in October.
Their program is open to all students in the Manitowoc area and the cost is $200 for grades 5-and-6 and $150 for youngsters entering the 7th and 8th grades.
Financial assistance is available and parents can register their young people at ManitowocChiefsFootball.com/Registration.
