Thursday afternoon, Manitowoc County Circuit Judge, Mark Rohrer, ruled in favor of The Manitowoc Area Convention and Visitors Bureau in their lawsuit against The City of Manitowoc.
This lawsuit is what former Manitowoc City Councilman and MAVCB Co-Chair, John Brunner, explains as a disagreement over the split of room tax dollars between The MAVCB and the cities of Manitowoc and Two Rivers, although Two Rivers was not named in this suit.
Both Manitowoc and Two Rivers voted to end their relationship with The MAVCB effective the end of 2021, and create their own tourism departments.
Brunner further explained to Seehafer News that the spirit and intent of the law was quite simple. It was to prevent cities from collecting room tax dollars and have that money spent on something other than tourism.
The MAVCB Co-Chair went on to say that he and The MAVCB are thrilled by Judge Rohrer’s decision, and they are hopeful to come to some sort of resolution on this matter soon.
Representatives from The City of Manitowoc had no comment Thursday and both sides are expected to meet separately with their legal counsel and meet jointly on May 11th.
