The 116-year-old Manitowoc Courthouse building is in need of various renovations, says Manitowoc County Executive Bob Ziegelbauer.
He tells Seehafer News that this three-year project could allow the courthouse to remain standing as a historic building for at least another century, if not longer.
This project has been considered for many years now, but Ziegelbauer claims that we now have the capability to fund this $30 million renovation.
He states that the renovation will include work on the dome, window replacements, and HVAC improvements.
Ziegelbauer emphasizes that these advancements are crucial to the daily occurrences inside the courthouse.
“We’ve got a lot of business that we do in the courthouse,” he noted. “We’ve built a new courthouse in the last fifteen or twenty years; every room and every section is upgraded and it’s a modern office. We don’t want to lose the courthouse and we want to fix it so that it will last a long time.”
The courthouse has served as a largely historical building in Manitowoc since it was first built, as it houses countless trials, meetings, and administrative dealings.
Ziegelbauer and his colleagues encourage the public to learn about the courthouse renovations and the benefits they have on Manitowoc’s history.
