Local comedy skits contained in a variety show are coming soon to the J.E. Hamilton Community House in Two Rivers.
It’s the 51st year of Heart-A-Rama to benefit the American Heart Association of Wisconsin, with 6 nightly shows from April 27th to the 29th and May 4th through the 6th.
Tom Bartelme is one of the directors and he spoke about the theme being “Holiday Road.”
“We are kind of saluting holidays, you know our traditional holidays, but then we also have some less traditional holidays,” he explained. “I believe there’s a skit called Garbage Day in there. So, yeah we have fun with all the holidays.”
One of the Heart-A-Rama players is Maddie Hansen, who’s been part of the fun for 12 years.
Maddie explained why she became involved.
“My grandpa and then after that I got involved with my dad too,” she said. “I just kept going and thought once I turned 21 I had a golden opportunity and I took it, auditioning for Heart A Rama.”
Her dad and emcee, Paul ‘Biff’ Hansen, added in tongue-in-cheek style, “I tried to keep her out because I knew what happened at Heart A Rama.”
Doors each night open at 6:30 with food served prior to the show and the “Best Seat in the House”, a decorated toilet seat, is auctioned at 7:10 followed by the show at 7:30.
Not only has the diverse Heart-A-Rama cast entertained audiences over the years, volunteers have generated over $3 million dollars for the Heart Association, along with donations of AEDs (automated external defibrillators) to public gathering places throughout Manitowoc County.
Tickets are on sales at both Lakeshore Piggly Wiggly stores or online at HeartARama.org.
