Manitowoc Lutheran High School Celebrates its version of Arbor Day today (May 3rd) by what School President Norv Koch calls “doing their part to make their community a better place to live.”
Koch tells Seehafer News that they decided to call Mayor Justin Nickels last spring and asked if there was anything they could do to help the city in its beautification efforts.
It turned out that half the school went to help clean up the area between the Power Plant and The Car Ferry Dock where plans to eventually make that area into a pristine beach in the city.
Koch lays out this year’s agenda saying students will be “going to Lincoln Park to help remove all of the debris from the park, the limbs and sticks and so on that is still there from the tree removal that took place recently. Half of our students will be going there while the others will be staying on campus doing work along with heading over to some teacher’s home to help out there.”
Manitowoc Lutheran’s President adds that he’s extremely proud of the kids who are willing to lead by example and show what it takes to be good stewards of the land God gave us.
“Not only do the older kids lead by example but here at Lutheran High there isn’t a lot of what you would call class distinction,” he said. “Everyone generally gets along and interacts well together, regardless of where they’re at in their educational journey. There is the example being set of helping out your community, but then there’s that interaction which is a rally good thing to do.”
The day begins with chapel at 8:00 a.m. After work, students return to school for lunch.
The afternoon will consist of a lot of fun-filled activities including a senior class versus teacher’s softball game, an outdoor volleyball tournament, and plenty of lawn games.
