Now that we are firmly entrenched in the month of May, many people’s thoughts turn to decorating their yard or garden for the warmer months.
If you’re wondering what to plant this spring season, Jim Knickelbine of the Woodland Dunes Nature Center suggests native plants and flowers.
Knickelbine appeared on the WCUB Breakfast Club recently talking about how larger numbers of non-native plants have been causing a drop in the number of native insects, birds, and butterflies.
He’ll be hosting a PowerPoint demonstration Monday, May 15th at 6 pm at the Manitowoc Public Library called Home Grown: Landscaping Native Plants with Jim Knickelbine”
He’ll be informing the public about various local plants, flowers, and trees that attract and feed native wildlife.
“I’ll be talking about the kind of wildlife we have in our urban/suburban areas, and the type of plants that are good to incorporate in your landscape,” he tells Seehafer News. “Especially what to plant that will be most attractive to things like butterflies.”
The presentation will be held upstairs in the library in the Balkansky Community Room, and is free to attend.
