There is no stopping Kaitlyn Lewis on the lanes in league bowling.
The Manitowoc resident not only rolled a Manitowoc County Bowling League best series last season for either gender, but also set the women’s all-time record.
Kaitlyn spoke recently with Seehafer News about her success on the alleys and said the 810 series record means the most to her.
“I looked to Jean Gulbrand who held the record for 12 years,” she explained. “I’ve gotten close with her in the last few years. She would always encourage me and should I say ‘I know it’s coming. I just want somebody to call me and make sure I’m there.’ She was there when I first broke the record with the 795 in November. She wasn’t there for the 810 but she was one of the first people I called to let them know.”
Lewis said she often got the question, What would you want most, a 300 game or an 800 series?
“I always said I want that 800 first because you have to be very consistent over three games,” Lewis explained. “You can bowl 300 in one game and then the other two games can go up or down but that 800, that’s just very special for me. My mom was there so that was a very special thing to have all the women in my league me so supportive and just excited for me as a bowler.”
The 810 series came the day after her birthday, so it was a nice birthday present.
Kaitlyn didn’t hesitate when asked how and when she got her start in bowling.
“I’ve been doing this since I was eight years old and I thank my mom for getting into bowling,” Lewis revealed. “It’s what I love to do.”
She added “The Jean Gulbrand’s, the Becky Belinske’s…they set the tone for me and they’ve passed that torch on, so I feel that I now need to uphold that and carry that on for our younger bowlers and I hope I’m doing that and being a role model for them.”
The 2022-’23 season was her best so far with a finishing average of 217, also a high for women in Manitowoc County.
Lewis received awards earlier this month for her 300 game and 800 series at the Manitowoc County Bowling Association Hall of Fame and Awards Banquet.
