The Manitowoc AMVETS Post 99 are hosting their annual Memorial Day Picnic from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Memorial Day.
Originally called Decoration Day, the tradition began during the American Civil War when citizens would place flowers and other items on the graves of those lost in battle.
The name was then changed to Memorial Day to honor those lost in all United States wars, and it became an official federal holiday in 1971.
The Manitowoc AMVETS are honoring the fallen at 4310 Conroe Street with a picnic celebration featuring live music from DJ Scotty and Dr. Bombay, as well as a memorial service and a flag rising.
There will be plenty of food, drinks, games, and raffles for the public to enjoy.
Anyone is welcome to join, and honor fallen loved ones or any others lost in battle.
