An organization is looking to help area students get ready for the next school year.
KAN (Kids and Necessities) is an organization that helps support students across Manitowoc County in their school supply purchases.
Elizabeth Phillips-Smith tells Seehafer News that the program was formed in 2004 to guarantee students access to the supplies they need for the school year.
She tells us their goal is to “distribute school supplies to children with financial need in Manitowoc County.”
Around 1000 children each year are welcomed to their annual drive-thru event where each student will get a backpack and a $25 gift certificate according to Chad Baucknecht.
“We work with Office Max in Manitowoc,” he explained. “So, they can take that certificate there and do their school supply shopping in the store.
Baucknecht and Phillips-Smith from KAN encourage the public to donate as the organization needs around $30,000 each year to continue its mission.
Whether that includes money or supply donations, volunteering, or even just sharing the cause with a friend, the group is very appreciative.
