The Two Rivers City Council passed a new ordinance regarding absentee ballots.
This will establish a central count of absentee ballots instead of sending the ballots to live polling stations to be counted.
City Manager Greg Buckley tells us that this would entail creating an additional election worker location at city hall for absentee ballots to be counted.
“It is the added security that the absentee ballots once they arrive at city hall, never leave city hall before they are counted,” he explained. “Also reduces stress and workload for election workers out at individual polling places and I think given the large numbers of absentee ballots we see for all elections, just makes a whole lot of sense.”
It should also be noted that the City of Manitowoc also has a Central Count system in place.
