AMVETS Post 99 is currently raising funds to build a new gathering space for Manitowoc County veterans at their 4310 Conroe Street location in Manitowoc Rapids.
AMVETS spokesman Dale Schroeder said the old school building there is probably better than 100 years old.
He explained that “What we want to do is put up a new building behind that and have the existing building stay there so we can still use that for storage or whatever.”
Schroeder tells Seehafer News they need another $550,000 to construct a handicap-accessible building.
“The building will be 70 by 100 feet, it’ll have a bar room in it, some halls in it,” he revealed. “For lack of a better term dance halls, 20 x 50, I think there’s 3 rooms in there and you can partition it off or open it up for a bigger room.”
He also explained another reason for the new construction is to provide a home for all veterans organizations in Manitowoc County.
“Right now, there’s like 5 or 6 different organizations in Manitowoc County and they all had their own separate homes at one time,” Schroeder noted. “Of course, (you have) the AMVETS, American Legion, VFW, Vietnam Veterans Chapter 731, The Purple Hearts, DAV and the Combats Vets Association.”
Hamann Construction is the general contractor for the project. For more information, go to amvetspost99.us and press Donations.
