Governor Tony Evers and DOA Secretary Kathy Blumenfeld visited Two Rivers Monday.
Evers and secretary Blumenfeld even kayaked up the West Twin River with Two Rivers Parks and Rec Director Mike Mathis and some of the coastal management staff.
City Manager Greg Buckley tells us it was not just a vacation trip for them however, as “The city applied for and was awarded a $30,000 grant to assist with kayaking instruction and adaptive kayaking for folks with disabilities, helping more people get out on the water and enjoy our water resources.”
Along with the initiative for more adaptive kayaking, the city’s match on the grant is $45,000 which will go towards the development of a fully handicap-accessible launch at Vets Park.
The coastal management grant as well as the Two Rivers grant match, is working to make the water resources in the city more accessible to everyone.
