Denmark is only one win away from a three-peat in High School Baseball.
The Vikings of veteran coach Bill Miller advanced to the WIAA State Division-2 championship game by virtue of a 7-0 victory Wednesday afternoon over Jefferson at Fox Cities Stadium in Grand Chute.
Denmark (29-and-2) received an excellent pitching performance from Lucas Miller, who scattered 6 hits in 5 and two third innings, to go along with just 1 walk and 7 strikeouts.
Jaycob Dittmer finished up, retiring the last 4 batters including 3 by strikeout.
Ethan Ovsek paced the Vikings offense by going 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored and an RBI.
The semifinal game was scoreless until Denmark scored 6 runs in the top of the 5th inning before adding another tally in the 6th.
That followed St. Thomas More’s 11-nothing rout of Altoona.
The Vikings and Cavaliers play for the gold ball today at 3:00 p.m.
Also at the WIAA State Baseball Tournament in Grand Chute yesterday, in the Division-1 Semifinals, Whitefish Bay dominated Stevens Point 17-0 while Hortonville topped Franklin 4-1. The Blue Dukes meet the Polar Bears for the large school title tonight at 6:00.
Division-3 Semifinals saw Kiel fall to St. Croix Falls and Random Lake eliminated by Aquinas by similar 10-0 scores. The Saints battle the Blugolds in the finals at noon today.
In the Division-4 Semifinals, there were a pair of one-run games. Ithaca edged Edgar 4-3, while Pecatonica snuck by McDonell Catholic 7-6. The Bulldogs and Vikings collide in the title matchup this morning at 9:00 a.m. in the first of four games on championship Thursday.
