Coming up next month, Manitowoc County Emergency Services will be conducting a law-enforcement-based drill with the Point Beach Nuclear Plant called a “Hostile Action Based Drill”.
It’s a team-up drill involving the plant, the county, and law enforcement going through what would happen if someone were to invade the power plant and take it over.
This hostile takeover drill is required to take place every eight years.
Manitowoc County Emergency Services Director Kayla Beckerdite explained while on the WCUB Breakfast Club that “There’s going to be an abundance of both Manitowoc County law enforcement vehicles, Two Rivers police, Manitowoc police, the bearcat will be up and about in the area. Trucks and other equipment from Two Creeks fire and surrounding agencies probably also will be up and moving about in the area.”
A local rehearsal will be taking place on July 11th, with the Federal Emergency Management Agency coming in on August 15th to evaluate the local performance.
