The Manitowoc American Legion baseball team rallied to defeat Bay Port 8-to-6 in 9-innings last night.
It marked the 5th straight win for Coach Kevin Stangel’s team, now 8-and-4. Trailing 5-4 entering the top of the 7th, Post 88 tied the game on a Tate Hartlaub triple and a throwing error by the catcher.
Both ballclubs scored single runs in the 8th before Manitowoc scored what proved to be the winning run when Reese Stangel was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Zander Popp earned the win in relief of starter Nathan Stephany, pitching 3 innings and allowing 1 run on 2 hits.
The Kiel connection of Brett and Tate Hartlaub combined to go 5-for-10 with a triple, double and RBI. Stangel chipped in 2 hits including a double and an RBI while Gavin Lettenberger went 2 for 5.
Each team had 11 hits and Bay Port committed the game’s only error.
Manitowoc is scheduled to play at New London tonight.
In semi-pro baseball this evening, the Manitowoc Bandits play host to the Branch Blaze.
First pitch is scheduled for 7:30 at Municipal Field.
