Ideal weather conditions blessed the 13th annual Gumby’s Club Fore A Cure held over the weekend at Meadow Sports Complex in Manitowoc.
Activity fundraisers to support cancer victims and their families included: A Glow Walk/Run with 150 people registered plus some walkups, about 100 golf foursomes, and 10-to-12 teams of bowlers.
Those coupled with Facebook and silent auctions, bucket and ticket raffles, and contests on the golf course made it truly a special event.
Lifting the spirits of everyone in attendance was the presence of co-founder Rob “Gumby” Roseff, who had been hospitalized in Rochester, Minnesota recently for complications of his ongoing battle with cancer.
With Unity The Band groovin’ in the background, Gumby spoke with Seehafer News, saying “By the grace of God I’m able to be here and see so many great people. Well, I said it’s money because you see the new generation come out and supporting (us) and then you see the people that’ve been here for 13 years.”
His wife and co-founder, Denise, admitted it was touch and go for Rob for awhile.
“He started getting better, started feeling better which is more than what was happening the previous month. And, all of a sudden they said ‘Yeah, we think he can go home’” she explained. “We’re like awesome. I was gunnin’ for Friday and they got him out on Thursday, so it was perfect.”
Denise Roseff said all the volunteers really came through.
“We were able to fill every single volunteer spot that we needed,” he revealed. “The people just came out, including past recipients who wanted to come out and give back as well. So, it’s just incredible.”
There were testimonials of those who have dealt with cancer and contributions by local individuals and organizations.
Denise added, “The turnout has been absolutely amazing and year after year we’re growing this and having fun.”
