EAA AirVenture is going on right now in Oshkosh, but did you know part of it starts in Manitowoc?
Each year before the event in Oshkosh, a group of T-34 Trainers “invade” the Manitowoc airport for formation practice.
The planes then perform a mass arrival flight into the EAA Airventure scene which always draws attention.
T-34s are American propeller-driven, single-engine, military trainer aircraft that were often used by Naval and Marine Corps Aviators from the 1950s-70s.
The T-34 Association, formed in 1975, now has over 600 members who help support this annual event.
As of Monday morning, there were 40 T-34s on the ground where they planned to leave at 2:00 p.m. for Oshkosh.
They have been flying and practicing at the airport for four days and use the airport as a place to brief for the time being.
Members of the association plan to celebrate with a cookout on Tuesday for the first time ever to allow members to meet others.
