Farmers and AG Producers in Manitowoc County say that the lack of rain has had an impact on their crops.
Manitowoc County Ag Educator Angie Ulness says that the corn crop is under the most stress.
“If you are driving by, you can notice some of the leaves are starting to curl, especially some of the shorter corn that was planted a little bit later,” she told Seehafer News. “But that pocket of corn that was planted in mid-May right now is beginning to pollinate and if you are driving in the countryside, you should notice a lot of corn tasseling.”
Ulness says whatever rain that’s fallen the past week or so is more than welcome.
However, she tells us “This year it’s been incredible of the amount of rain that’s been hit or miss. Some producers may not receive any while a mile or two down the road some receive a half-an-inch. Crops are definitely lacking moisture, especially corn that could really use it.”
Ulness adds that the warm. Humid weather has affected the wheat harvest but the forecast calling for cooler and less humid weather will help.
Also-most producers are on schedule to harvest their fourth crop of hay.
