The Sheboygan County Sheriff’s Office has released more details in connection to an officer involved shooting late Wednesday afternoon in Neenah.
Sheriff Cody Roessler says that around 4:50 p.m., The Lake Winnebago MEG Unit was involved in an undercover operation to execute an arrest of a 37-year-old male, whose last known address was in the Oshkosh area, who had outstanding warrants out for his arrest.
Officers contacted the subject at a gas station in the 500 block of South Commercial Avenue in Neenah.
A preliminary investigation indicates that the wanted man displayed a weapon when confronted. Two officers used deadly force.
Medical attention was rendered on scene and he was transported to Theda Clark Hospital in Neenah where he died.
One of the officers involved in the shooting is 42-years old with five years of service with The Appleton Police Department and ten years of law enforcement experience, while the other is a 31-year-old Outagamie County Sheriff’s deputy and a six-year veteran of the agency.
Their names, or the identity of the deceased are not being released at this time. No one else was hurt. Both officers have been placed on administrative leave by their respective agencies pending the outcome of the investigation.
Assisting agencies aiding in the investigation include The Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office, Sheboygan Police Department, The Wisconsin State Patrol and The Wisconsin State Crime Lab.
All investigative reports, upon completion, will be turned over to The Winnebago County District Attorney’s Office
