Wisconsin’s bow hunting season is opening in less than a month.
The bow hunting season works to control Wisconsin deer populations and reduce car-deer accidents.
After kicking off with a meeting last week with Lieutenant Mark Schroeder, the Manitowoc Police Department is now accepting bow hunting and landowner applications.
Amber Noworatzky, the Administrative Assistant at the Manitowoc Police Department, tells Seehafer News how the bow hunting season has proved beneficial.
“When we started the program back in 2006, there was a reported 48 vehicle versus deer accidents in the city of Manitowoc,” she said while on WOMT’s Be My Guest Program. “In 2022, there was only 24, so we’ve cut the number in half.”
You can turn in your bow hunter and landowner applications online, or at the front counter of the Manitowoc Police Department.
The office is open Monday-Thursday from 7-4:30, and Friday from 7-11:30.
The season runs from September 16th to January 7th, and those interested in participating are asked to get their forms in by September 8th to be processed by the start of the archery season.
