Kiel’s Football team is looking forward to the start of the season this Friday.
The team is better than ever, with a handful of new coaches to add as well as seniors stepping up to the plate and leading the team.
While speaking to head coach David Esswein we got some insight into how practices have been running thus far, and some of the team’s own philosophy.
“We talk about getting 1% better each day, so focus has been good,” he told Seehafer News. “We’ve got some high goals this year.”
With a handful of new coaches and new players coming up, everyone is learning how things run, and how to effectively work together and support one another.
“We’ve got a really great group of coaches that we have, some that are super experienced, some that are just starting out, and it’s really cool to see us as a coaching staff come together,” the coach said. “As for the guys, we had a lot of sophomores play last year, so I’m excited to see them have a year of varsity experience under their belt, and I’m looking forward to those seniors now that were juniors last year, I’m looking forward to them stepping up as leaders.”
Seniors Grant Manz and Nick Muten explained how they feel the team dynamic has been a positive one this year.
With seniors stepping up and the overall team’s chemistry being admirable.
Muten said, “I feel like as a group we’re more controlled and together, I feel like we’re more of a brotherhood, other years we were just kind of there, and not everyone on the team was involved.”
Manz reiterated the feeling, saying “This team’s definitely more together than previous years, we all know each other. It’s a brotherhood like Nick said, it’s something special we have”.
Kiel’s first game will be tonight (August 18th) at home against Kewaunee.
