Many Manitowoc residents are curious about the continuous construction of roads across the city, and which will receive maintenance in the future.
The main project this year is Reed Avenue on the north side of the city, but other small projects include Division Street and other neighborhood roads.
Nickels explains the maintenance that is being performed on these streets.
“There’s a lot of roads that we’re doing some slurry-seal and just regular maintenance of,” the mayor explained. “Those are the side streets, mostly.”
The mayor says that neighborhood roads, such as Macarthur Drive, will be repaired with asphalt rather than concrete, because it is cheaper in the long run, and there would not be much truck traffic that would wear it down quickly.
More plans for other major roads are in the works for next year.
Nickels tells Seehafer News, “We have plans, larger plans, next year for Rapids Road from Waldo all the way to the city limits. Viebahn. Franklin Street.”
More information on the 5-year capital plan of the city can be obtained by calling the mayor’s office or by visiting manitowoc.org.
The mayor encourages the public to inform them of roads in need of refurbishment.
